Where are they going?
Into the ground
Watch for steady traffic into a small hole near the lawn, garden edge, stump or old animal burrow.
Into the house
They may use a gap in the siding, trim, utility line or roof. Don’t seal it while they’re still active.
Around food or trash
Yellowjackets also show up around garbage, fallen fruit, outdoor meals and sweet drinks. The nest may be somewhere else.
For now, play it safe
- Keep children and pets away from the flight path.
- Don’t mow, dig or hit the area around the nest.
- Remember the exact hole or gap they’re using.
- Have your ZIP code ready when you call.
If someone has trouble breathing or swelling around the face or throat, call 911.
